World Security Forum

The World Security Forum is a conference on global security taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 21 - 22 October 2008, under the patronage of the UAE Minister of Interior, His Highness Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It will be held at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE.

During the conference, a panel of experts from international politics and business will discuss major security issues facing the world today and review the implications of such catastrophes on populations, businesses and markets. The conference website states that speakers will include politicians, academics, heads of emergency response services and senior officials from global organizations such as the United Nations, which is also one of the Forum’s official supporters.

In addition to Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sir Ken Knight, the Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser to the United Kingdom government, will address the World Security Forum.

Topics of the 2008 Forum include earthquakes, fire and rescue, the effects of global warming and 'wild weather', acts of terrorism, disease pandemics, disaster management, and humanitarian aid.
