Powerlifting is a sport popular in the upper midwest and some states in the south in the United States as well as internationally. In High School, powerlifters complete in three lifts: squat, bench and deadlift. They are classified into three different divisions and also among weight classes within those divisions. High School powerlifters compete in many competitions as well as a state meet throughout Wisconsin. Regional Meets Regional meets are held throughout the season. Lifters compete against one another by trying to lift a larger total weight. Lifters who meet the minimum total amount of weight lifted, are then qualified for the State Meet. State Meet Lifters who have qualified for State in their weight class are able to lift. The State meet is held at a different location per year. Hundreds of lifters compete.The best lifters are determined by the Wilks formula. Team trophies are determined by team points. Gear Powerlifters wear gear to add support to their lifts.It is common to see high school lifters wearing either Inzer or Titan branded gear. Gear apparel consists of, but is not limitd to: Squat suits, bench shirts, singlets, wrist wraps, and deadlift suits. WHSPA WHSPA stands for Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association. This Association provides high school powerlifters a place where they can be safe and compete. Within the WHSPA there are 3 different divisions that Wisconsin High Schools compete in. Membership in the WHSPA allows for coaches to have voting rights and participation in coaches clinics.
