The Winkler parlor pistol was a breech-loading handgun made by the Josef Winkler Company of Ferlach, Karnten, Austria, which was in business from 1915 to 1956. The firm was well known in Europe for sporting arms, principally double-barreled shotguns. The Winkler parlor pistol was designed for use in indoor target practice. The firearm had a walnut stock and a 7-inch barrel and fired ammunition of approximately .17 caliber.<ref name=Argo /> This particular type of firearm is known in the United States as a "parlor pistol," a term derived from the German zimerschutzen, or "room shooting. These firearms typically featured very heavy barrels and very small caliber, and were used for family entertainment, presumably in large houses. Footnotes
