WikiPoint is a proprietary extension for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 developed by Neoworks that adds wiki functionality. WikiPoint is implemented as a webpart and uses a wiki syntax derived from the FlexWiki syntax. Pricing ranges from £15 per user to £3000 per server. It lacks many common features, such as full-blown image support, but will render an image in an article if linked to an externally hosted image. User credentials are controlled by SharePoint, allowing easy integration with Active directory. While it is possible to integrate more standard, open source engines such as MediaWiki into Sharepoint, it requires a some customization and tinkering to reproduce WikiPoint's nature as a webpart and WikiPoint's native Active Directory support via its LDAP extension. Main Features ; Access control: Access control is handled by Sharepoint, often using Active Directory ; Full text search: WikiPoint topics are indexed in the same way as other document types by SharePoint's indexer. SharePoint's search engine returns results from wiki topics when searching a context that contains WikiPoint document libraries. ;Revision control: WikiPoint supports revision control. Links to view the revisions of topics may be enabled or disabled via the webpart properties.
