Whitelines

Whitelines (Whitelines AB, incorporated in Sweden, founded in 2006) is a company with a patented contrast technology. The usage is mainly in printing, and the company is primarily a notebook manufacturer.
Writing paper with dark supporting lines has been around since medieval times when iron gall ink was used for its lasting dark colour. Whitelines claims that dark lines distract whereas white lines don't.
There are many attempts to achieve similar contrast improvements, such as dots instead of lines () and combinations ().
With a tinted background and white lines, rather than white background and black lines, Whitelines' paper is said to be more relaxing on the eyes. This touches a medical research field named Visual Stress(), often referred to as a part of a dyslexia diagnose. Other manufacturers are developing aids for the diagnosis, such as coloured overlays and paper ().
The Blogosphere is full with references to Whitelines, and the innovation involved. Partly this is due to the company's environmental approach. Whitelines has adopted the Carbon Footprint concept and claims being the first vendor in the world to use an adequate calculation of the CO2 gas emission .
