Westsplaining (a blend word combining "West" and the modified form, "splaining", of the gerund, "explaining") is a term meaning "(of Western people) to comment on, or explain, something to allegedly less civilized people in a condescending, overconfident, often inaccurate or oversimplified manner." The term was coined after the expression "mansplaining". Another term, related to "Westsplaining", is Westjacking. A term of similar meaning to "Westsplaining" is "Balkanism", coined after "Orientalism" - an exotic, highly stylised presentation of "the East" by scholars, writers, or artists from "the West".
