The Western School of Health and Business Careers - Monroeville is a branch of the Pittsburgh school, opened in February of 1989 and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Careers Schools and Colleges of Technology. Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the school offers programs in several vocational areas including business administration, massage therapy and surgical technology.

History
The Western School of Health and Business Careers opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in October 1980. The school opened its branch in Monroeville, Pennsylvania in February of 1989. In 1987, the Pennsylvania Department of Education granted the school approval to offer students Associate degrees. The school was acquired by Career Education Corporation in 2003.

Academics
The Western School of Health and Business Careers - Monroeville offers several options for Specialized Associate degree and Diploma programs:

*Business Administration Program

Students in the Business Administration Program can earn Associate in Specialized Business degrees and gain the skills needed for entry-level positions in customer service, hospitality and travel.

*Dental Assistant Program

The Dental Assistant Diploma Program teaches students the necessary skills needed to manage dental offices.

*Massage Therapist Program

Students at the Western School of Health and Business Careers - Monroeville can earn a diploma in Massage Therapist. This program can prepare them for work in chiropractic practices, health spas and physical therapy clinics.

*Medical Assistant Specialist Program

The Medical Assistant Specialist Program offers students the opportunity to obtain an Associate of Specialized Technology degree. The 60 week program teaches medical techniques, ethics and procedures.

*Pharmacy Technician Program

The Pharmacy Technician Program is designed to prepare students for a career as a trained assistant to pharmacists in hospitals, clinics or pharmacies. Students in the Pharmacy Technician Program can earn an Associate of Specialized Technology degree.

*Respiratory Therapy Program

Respiratory Therapy students can earn an Associate of Specialized Technology degree while learning skills needed in the health care industry, including diagnosis, treatment and patient management. A specialized degree in Respiratory Therapy can lead to a career in hospitals, emergency clinics, ambulance services or nursing homes.

*Surgical Technology Program

Students can earn an Associate of Specialized Technology degree in Surgical Technology. The program is designed to prepare graduates to work directly with surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses.

Admissions
The Western School of Health and Business Careers - Monroeville is a non-discriminatory institution. All applicants must complete an interview with an admissions representative. Applicants must also complete an application, statement of general health, entrance exam, enrollment agreement, proof of high school diploma, financial aid application and a $25.00 application fee. The Admissions department can also perform criminal background checks before accepting applicants.

Campus
The campus is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in a modern office building. There are six lecture rooms, five classroom/labs two computer labs and two independent labs. The Business Administration Program uses industry-current technology in classrooms such as a Smart Board and an LCD projector. Dental Assistant students use a lab with dental chairs and x-ray equipment. The Medical Assistant labs house EKG, urinalysis and hematology machines. The Respiratory Therapy labs include ventilators and Ultrasonic nebulizer units. Pharmacy Technician students can learn by using a Laminar Airflow unit. Massage Therapy students are also able to practice their trade with massage tables, hot stone therapy and Paraffin wax machines. The Western School of Health and Business Careers - Monroeville provides students with a library that houses both print and electronic resources.
