WENJ RADIO

For WENJ in Atlantic City, please refer to ESPN Radio 1450.

WENJ RADIO was a pirate radio station that broadcast on several different frequencies in the central New Jersey Area starting in the 1960s.

In its early years WENJ radio was best known for DJ Jack Bean who would play oldies requests from a bedroom on 1620 AM. The station later became an FM station broadcasting on 104.7 FM with a variey show format. It was a station where anything could be played and the listener did not know what was coming up next. Pieces ranged from absurd sound effects during music, to the WENJ engineer unplugging a toilet to the Bloodhound Gang hits being mixed with American Pie movie sound effects. Ed Skinner of WERA 1590 was one of the station's groupies who got made fun of, and created the crapping in the tub and stuttering skin comedy bits along with prank calls that eventually got WENJ shut down in 2003.
