Web design agency

Web design agencies are generally categorised by the types of media for which they offer design services. These design disciplines vary greatly and include branding and print, web & internet, exhibition and event promotion, advertising and public relations, video and broadcast media etc. There are also more specialist design agencies, which are less main-stream and concentrate on services to specific industries such as aeronautical, engineering and construction.

Many mainstream design agencies tend to dedicate most of their skills to one or two specific disciplines, such as logo or web design. Other agencies offer a much wider range of disciplines and offer in-house expertise across multiple marketing and design media. Even those services for which they procure outsourced support, are procured and managed on the client's behalf by the agency.

The intent throughout all design discipline is to provide the most appropriate, engaging and effective visualisation of a product or service. The design is commonly the starting point of all associated and subsequent marketing activity, and often provides inspiration, focus and clarity to a project.

Great design enables the clients, or in many cases the client's client, to quickly appreciate - and even respond to - the products or services on offer. Many companies and individuals successes and failures have been directly attributable to the design process.

Agency and freelance designers use a variety of tools, and many prefer to utilise the Apple Macintosh platform and product suites, although Windows PC based products offer the same abilities in many cases. Software manufacturers such as Adobe (which includes PhotoShop and the Macromedia Suite of products) and Quark are the industry leaders.
