The Waukegan Fire Department provides fire protection and paramedic service to the citizens and visitors of Waukegan, Illinois. There are five fire stations which provide protection to the the 35 square miles that comprise the City of Waukegan, Illinois. Waukegan is a diverse, urban community 35 miles North of downtown Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. Waukegan is the county seat of Lake County, Illinois and is bordered to the North by Beach Park, Illinois, to the West by Gurnee, Illinois and to the South by North Chicago, Illinois. The Firemen of Waukegan are represented by the International Association of Fire Fighters and IAFF Local 473 is the local that contracts with the city administration on wages and working rules for both the blueshirt firefighters and the fire lieutenants.
