Walnut Creek Intermediate (WCI) is the sole middle school in the Walnut Creek School District in Walnut Creek, California. The part of Walnut Creek served by the Mount Diablo Unified School District attends Foothill Middle School. The school has approximately 1140 students with around 75 staff members. It is a California Distinguished School and a National Blue Ribbon Nominee. The Core academic curriculum is History, English, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Science. The sixth grade and seventh grade levels combine English and History and call the class "Core". The sixth grade level consists of three periods in the core, while the seventh grade level consists of two periods in the core. A similar system exists at Foothill Middle School.
