WATERSIDE
This is a pre production article of a movie named "WATERSIDE"
The storyline for Waterside was developed in 2018 following a visit to the Makoko waterside community in Lagos State. The story has undergone several rewrites and title change, with the initial title being Oju Omi. Waterside is the direct translation of the initial title, Oju Omi. The story follows the struggles of a waterside community as they face interest from oil exploration companies.
The film is at pre production stage with the script undergoing final rewrites.
In 2017, Producers Mimi Haaga and Oke Gbolahan came up with the basic concept for Waterside. The first draft was developed in January 2018 following months of research and visits to the Makoko waterside community in the Western City of Lagos Nigeria.
The movie was slated to be shot in 2019 but due to funding challenges, it was moved to 2020. In 2020, the project had to be shelved again due to COVID restrictions in various parts of Nigeria. By the end of 2021, the project was given a green light once again. The script underwent rewrites and shoot location was changed from the Western City of Lagos Nigeria to the middle part of the country.
Makurdi Benue state became the new location. During the Africa International Film Festival in November 2021, the Producer pitched the concept for Waterside to renowned film director and cinematographer Kagho Idiebor. Kagho declared his admiration for the project and by December 2021 he was confirmed as the projΙect's Director. Veteran actor Segun Arinze has been confirmed to play a lead role.
Filming Principal photography is set for February 2022
