Vulcan to the Sky Trust is a British charity that owns and operates a former Royal Air Force Avro Vulcan V bomber operating from a former V-bomber base at Doncaster Robin Hood Airport. The trust is dependent on fund raising and support from the public. The Avro Vulcan The trust operates an Avro Vulcan jet-powered delta wing former strategic bomber previously operated by the Royal Air Force. A programme to restore the aircraft into flying condition was started in 1998 and was supported by a £2.7million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. In 2007 the Vulcan returned to air as a flying tribute to those that operated the V-bombers. As part of the work of the trust the Vulcan and the related educational programmes are used to promote science, technology and Cold War history and to inspire the young to become engineers. Since May 2011, XH558 has been based Doncaster Robin Hood Airport, the former RAF Finningley used as a V-bomber base during the cold-war, the Trust hopes to develop an education and engineering training centre alongside a centre of expertise for early jet aircraft.
