Vroomtrap

Vroomtrap is designed to identify speed traps around the world for motorists using public roads in real-time. The Vroomtrap system consists of two major components; A web application and mobile application. The system was originally developed in 2007.
Web Application
Web Service
At the core of Vroomtrap is a web service framework designed to index and search chronographically ordered geographic coordinates. The web service is built on the Google App Engine platform. The App Engine, coupled with a scalable software design, leverages a cloud computing framework which allows Vroomtrap to scale without additional system design.
Web Graphical User Interface
The primary design concept of the graphical user interface (GUI) was to create a full screen web application. Contrary to most websites, Vroomtrap scales to fit the entire web browser window allowing the system to be used on larger monitors while still maintaining front end aesthetics. The JavaScript library which was chosen to create the interface was ExtJS.
Mobile application
iPhone
The iPhone application is the first mobile application developed for Vroomtrap using Apple Inc.'s Objective-C platform. The mobile design attempts to provide information and interaction without requiring the motorists full attention. The mobile application does this by using a 2-button add and confirm trap process. This process is no more distracting than changing a radio station or adjusting the internal car temperature. The mobile application provides physical, audio, and visual alerts to ensure that the motorist is properly warned.
Windows Mobile
The Windows Mobile application is the second mobile application to be developed for Vroomtrap using and Microsoft Visual Studio. The Windows Mobile design uses a scalable technique to allow Vroomtrap to run on virtually any Windows Mobile Device. In addition to the 2-button touch screen add and confirm process, the Windows Mobile version can also use the keyboard or keypad numbers (1-6) to make selections. The mobile application provides physical, audio, and visual alerts to ensure that the motorist is properly warned.
