VKool is a website of news with voluntary and non-professional writers, created by Tony Nguyen in April 1995. A small but international organization in the field of journalism, VKool is in line with the American community newspapers like Indymedia (1999). Many sites more or less participatory have emerged since then, such as The Atlantic, Atlantico, The Huffington Post and Mediapart. It can be compared to the Korean site OhmyNews. In January, 2013, 8 volunteers enrolled as permanent editors and reporters on the American website. Today, the site has more than a thousand of volunteer moderators.
