Violent Acres

Violent Acres is a personal website, or blog, written by an anonymous apparently female author, "V". The site was opened in October 2006 and mostly consists of personal stories including anecdotes and horror stories about the author's abusive mother, childhood relationships, a teenage marriage and divorce, her current volunteering activities, and her past problems with consumer debt which she took drastic measures to get out of.
Whilst the author claims to be a woman, there has been speculation among readers as to whether she may actually be a man. The author has stated that she has no intention of ever revealing her identity. The content of the site give the impression that the author is a married woman in her early 30s, with stepchildren and a dog.

The website attracted instant controversy when it was first opened in 2006, as the author wrote satirical posts making fun of the children of some "mommybloggers" (i.e. mothers who blog about the antics of their young children) such as Heather Armstrong or Dooce, as well as the authors of Amalah.com and Sweetney.com.
Violent Acres gained popularity and notoriety - in the form of a rapid increase in traffic - thanks to such controversial posts. The author was accused of generating controversy in order to increase traffic volume. The controversy came to a head in 2007 when a blogger whom Violent Acres had made fun of tried to track down the real identity of the author. The blogger posted the name and address of a female Ohio resident on his site and on other sites.
The website was sold in 2008, and is updated less frequently, and by several guest authors in addition to the original author. The author claimed to have taken the decision to sell the site after finding herself with less time to write after she started her own business.
Despite the reduction in post frequency, the website currently generates revenue through Text Link Ads and other advertising services. The site receives approximately 40,000 monthly hits.
