Online Vinyl Pusoy is an adaptation of the popular Filipino card game “pusoy”. There is a whole lot of difference between the classic pusoy and its spin off “pusoy dos". Vinyl Pusoy is created by Filipino cultural prankster Marcus Adoro and is geared towards vinyl enthusiasts like Vinyl Addicts Anonymous https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vinyl-Addicts-Anonymous/172456449433880.
Much like in the Filipino classic "pusoy" each player chooses from his collection thirteen LPs. The LPs are arranged in the good, better, best configuration.
The new game is still evolving and is being modified by vinyl enthusiasts and grammar police as you read.
Recent Rules and Terminologies:
Royal Flush: Five consecutive albums from a group/ artist’s discography, starting with the debut release.
Straight Flush: Five consecutive albums from a group/ artist’s discography
Flush: Any 5 LPs from a group/band
Straight: Any 5 LPs from an artist who’ve released a solo, joined another band, changed his band’s name etc.
Ex. Any 4 Van Morrison albums and a Them album. A Faces album (with Ron Wood), three Stones album (with Ron Wood) and a solo (Ron Wood Album).
Quadro: any four copies of one LP plus a kicker LP
Trio: any three copies of an LP plus 2 kickers
Pair: Any two copies of the same LP plus 3 kickers or 1 kicker(
Two Pairs: Any two Pairs (can be any 2 (same) Lps from two artists) plus one kicker
Full House: A Trio and a Pair
Kicker: Any LP
Butow: Any three unrelated LPs, Any five unrelated LPs.
Pow: Wrong arrangement according to hierarchy
LPs are judged based on their rarity and fidelity? (Sealed LPs fare better than played ones). Again, the game is still being modified. Any vinyl enthusiast is welcome to edit this page as long as he or she understands the classic “pusoy” card game and owns vinyls.
The game can be played for fun and for showing off one’s collection and musical preferences. There has been no report of betting but some circles are already laying their own “ground rules”.
The online game can be played two ways:
Straight Vinyl Pusoy: all thirteen LPs are arranged according to hierarchy - 5 cards (best) at the bottom, 5 LPs on the middle (better) and three cards on top (good). You upload your jpegs once.
Modified Straight Vinyl Pusoy: this version requires four uploads the player uploads the best (5Lps) then waits for the other players to upload their best 5 LPs.Next upload is the middle 5 LPs and the last one is upload a la Straight Vinyl Pusoy.
Asked if he plays the game online, Marcus Adoro said, "nah, its more of a pissing game on who has what album, but this game is a more creative and fun (and very Pinoy) way of showing off one's collection (as opposed to uploading each and every picture of one’s Lps) interacting with other vinyl enthusiasts and knowing who has extra copies of what. At the end of the day vinyls are better off when actually paid a listen to and shared with friends."
