Vinod Agrawal

Vinod Agrawal is an orthopedic surgeon in the city of Mumbai, India. He was one of the first people in India to perform the surgery for a pedicle screw fixation. He has since established his own practice and now operates in the cities of Mumbai, Guwahati and Indore. He has started his own group of hospitals called Ark hospital which is now open in two locations in the city of Mumbai. He oversee's multiple problems associated with bones, joint and muscles. Current practice includes wide range of elective orthopedic operations including spine surgeries, primary hip and knee replacement surgeries, arthroscopic surgery including ACL reconstructions. He has over 25 years of experience in orthopedics.
Of particular interest to Dr. Agrawal are endoscopic and microscopic spine surgeries spine instrumentation for instability and spondylolysthesis. In 2001, he was the first person to perform thoracoscopic spinal instrumentation in western India.
Education
He completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Topiwala National Medical College (TNMC) in affiliation with Mumbai University in 1986
. He then moved on to complete his Diploma in Orthopedics from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Mumbai (CPS) in 1988. He has also completed his fellowship at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of India in 1989. He has also received an orthopedic degree from the DIplomate of National Board (DNB), India. He received his Master of Surgery in Orthopedics from the University of Mumbai in 1989.
His foreign education includes an MCh Orthopedic degree from the University of Liverpool in 1995 as well as an ODTS from the Royal College of Surgeons, U.K. in 1995. He has also completed a diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy from the McKenzie Institute in New Zealand.

Currently he is a consultant at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai. He is also associated with Hinduja Hospital in Khar, Mumbai as well as other hospitals like Sujay, Criti-care and Advanced Specialty Hospital. He has also established his own two institutions named Ark Clinic and Ark Hospital.
Ark Clinic is located in Santacruz, Mumbai. It is a specialty centre for Gynecology, Physiotherapy and Advanced Orthopedics. Whereas Ark Hospital is located in Andheri, Mumbai and is a specialty hospital for orthopedics and gynecology.
Specialties
Current practice includes wide range of elective orthopedic operations including spine surgeries and arthroscopic surgery including ACL reconstructions. His expertise also include a Total Hip Replacement (THR), Total Knee Replacement (TKR), fracture plating, shoulder surgeries, wrist surgeries, neck surgeries and back surgeries. His super specialty lies in spinal surgeries with special importance given to endoscopic and microscopic spine surgeries, spine instrumentation for instability and spondylolysthesis.
He is even an honorary consultant at a hospital in Guwhati, Assam where he frequently goes to perform surgeries.

Teaching experience
He has a broad experience of teaching undergraduates over the past 10 years during clinics as well as through more formal tutorials. This included subjects such as diagnosis and management of routine fractures such as femoral neck, ankle, wrist and long bone fractures including epiphyseal injuries, bone and joint infections, pediatric orthopedic conditions such as Perthes’ disease, SUFE, CDH, clubfoot etc.
He has taken clinics for resident doctors during hospital teaching meetings on management of common fractures and common orthopedic conditions, principles of fracture treatment and plastering techniques.
He has been a regular tutor on the orthopedic module of the BST course organized at the Welsh Institute of Minimally Invasive Techniques.
Worked at a Lecturer in Trauma & Orthopedics at the University of Bombay for 6 months and has had extensive teaching responsibilities for undergraduate students and orthopedic higher surgical trainees. His activities included: training medical students, SHOs, nurses and SpRs. In charge of the journal club and responsible for devising the training program of post-graduate trainees. I was closely involved in organizing the MS exams and also the Orthopedic module in the MBBS exams.
He also has a fellowship programs which allows students with orthopedic degrees to work alongside him and gain more experience in the field of orthopedics.
Till 2015, has had more than 10 fellows who have worked with him. They have gone on to start their own practice in different cities of India.
