VGMix

VGMix is a website dedicated to arrangements of video game music.
The website was created by and a team of volunteer web designers in 2002, as an alternative to OverClocked ReMix. The two sites are similar in concept but have different approaches to quality control. Any artist is allowed to submit their works to either website, but rather than using judges to accept or reject submissions, as OverClocked ReMix does, VGMix's quality is maintained through reviews and score ratings supplied by users of the site. VGMix also allows users to upload "work in progress" versions of their arrangements in order to gain feedback before the release of the final tunes.
The VGMix user base also has strong ties with many scenemusic and electronica websites, with many of its initial members sharing a long history on such sites. Near the end of its second incarnation's lifespan, the user base had grown to include many musicians (mostly guitarists) from the monthly arrangement competition Dwelling of Duels, which is hosted on their servers, and discussed on The Shizz's Minibosses message board.
The site was closed on February 11, 2006, due to the exploitation of multiple vulnerabilities in the site's database code. Temporary forums were put in place during the development of a new version. Ever since, website creator Kaufman made various announcements, alternatively reporting estimated times of launch or the likeliness of missing these dates.
The site was relaunched as VGMix X on January 1, 2008 using the JamRoom Artist Website Kit and Community Builder. The VGMix 2.5 forums are still accessible for an indefinite amount of time. On March 16, 2008 VGMix announced that its new re-launch was being interrupted by attacks on the site's user accounts through password cracking. Several main features were critically affected and are yet to be maintained. No information on the next update has been given at this time.
New features
VGMix X introduced many new features into the website. Users are now able to create personal radio feeds with the songs located at the site which can grow as the site grows. This feature takes great advantage of the servers provided by Jamroom. The use of these third-party servers lowers the bandwidth brought into the site allowing it to run more efficiently. Other features include a Personal Blog, User Control Panel, and a top ten board containing the top ten most popular songs on the site. After the attacks in March many of these features have been disabled.
Downtime
On June 30th, 2010, the VGMix website, along with their forums and personal blog, went offline for an undetermined amount of time. This resulted from a change in hosting plans and will be fixed when virt has time.
This downtime has also caused Dwelling of Duels to go offline as a side effect since DoD was hosted by VGMix.
