Venant Nkurunziza

Venant Nkurunziza was born on the 02 January 1983 in the village of Gasumba, Nyamagabe District in the former Gikongoro Province. He is a young Rwandan politician who serves as Minister of Justice of the Rwandan people’s Government in Exile which founded on 20 February 2017. He is one of the leaders of Ishema Party described as a young generation political organization opted for non-violence. Venant Nkurunziza holds the position of Deputy Secretary General in charge of Legal Affairs and Conflict Management. He was also the Candidate Campaign Manager of their presidential candidate Rev Father Thomas Nahimana.
Early life and education
Venant Nkurunziza attended School 1989-1997 at Mugano Primary school, then his secondary school (Tronc commun) at G S Mutura. In 2003 He was awarded his Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education in section of “Humanities sciences”.
Venant Nkurunziza pursued his legal studies at the National University of Rwanda from 2004 after which he was conferred his Bachelor Degree of Law (LLB) at the congregation held in Butare on the 27 March 2009.
Venant Nkurunziza holds a Master’s (LLM) degree in International Law and Protection of Human Rights from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa.
Employment and political career
In 2008 Venant Nkurunziza was employed by Supreme Court of Rwanda as court Clerk at Nyarugenge Court before and after his university studies.
Venant Nkurunziza previously worked as a Researcher Assistant at the African Institute for Migrants Workers (AIMW) and at University of the Western Cape. in South Africa.
After attempting twice to go back home and being denied their right, Ishema party leaders decided to hold quick discussions with all other representatives of opposition political parties striving for Democracy in Rwanda, other members of civil society and individual activists to found Government of Rwanda in Exile.<ref name=":0" />
After three days of an extraordinary retreat held in Paris from 17-19 February 2017, the day after, members declared a separate official “GOUVERNMENT OF RWANDA IN EXILE”. And Venant Nkurunziza became Minister of Justice in that Government.<ref name=":0" />
