Vanessa Hudson (born 4 December 1972) is the leader of UK's Animal Welfare Party and the party's candidate for the constituency of Holborn and St. Pancras in the 2015 General Election. Early Life Hudson was born in Sheffield, UK and grew up in Nottinghamshire where she attended Tuxford Comprehensive School. She studied English and Communication Studies at The University of Liverpool. Political career Hudson joined the Animal Welfare Party, then known as Animals Count, in 2009 and took over the leadership when former leader, Jasmijn de Boo stood down in 2010. The party changed its name to Animal Welfare Party in 2013. Hudson has described the party's central philosophy as 'anti-speciesist' and the animal rights movement as a social justice movement, comparing it to earlier movements in history campaigning for civil rights and women's rights.
