Vancouver Aquatic Centre

The Vancouver Aquatic Centre (VAC) is an Olympic size swimming pool in West End adjacent to the North end of the Burrard Street Bridge on the West side and directly East of Vancouver's Sunset Beach at the Eastern end of English Bay. The pool also includes a small weightlifting room, a dry sauna and jacuzzi. Sunset Beach has lifeguards on duty in the warm months. Public washrooms and concession stands are nearby. Biking, walking and inline skating paths wind above the beach area, leading to Stanley Park in one direction and Yaletown in the other. A False Creek Ferries dock is also located behind the building along sunset beach, connecting the pool with Granville Island and Kitsilano.

The pool includes a dive pool with 1m and 3m spring boards and three drive tower platforms at 5m, 7.5m and 10m. The facility hosts numerous events, swim clubs, diving clubs and various aquatic activities. Biking, walking and inline skating paths run along the sea wall in front of the VAC and leading to Sunset Beach on the West side of the VAC English Bay and Stanley Park and, on the East side runs under the Burrard Street Bridge and around False Creek and Yaletown.

The building was designed by Duncan McNab & Partners and features an unusual shape which looks like a truncated pyramid from the outside, opened in May 1974 at which time it was a state-of-the-art facility.
