This was slated to be Van Halen's second album featuring then former Extreme singer Gary Cherone, however, the record never materialized and was abandoned with Cherone's amicable departure from the band. The title to the abandoned album is not known, but Van Halen IV may have been a possible title. History Following the ill-fated Van Halen III album and tour, the band reconvened in the studio to record what was supposed to be the follow up to Van Halen III. For the album, they had tapped noted producer Danny Kortchmar, who had a prolific production career producing for Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and Warren Zevon in the 1970's, and with Don Henley in the 1980's on Building the Perfect Beast and The End of the Innocence. At least three songs were described by Cherone when talking about the record. Left for Dead was described as having Four on the Floor elements and was their most uptempo song, Say Uncle focused on a dominant woman and a submissive man, while You Wear It Well was described as having a stellar tapping intro that sounds like an extraterrestrial on acid. At least one song from the aborted record, Left for Dead, would appear on Tribe of Judah's 2002 debut album, which featured Gary Cherone on vocals. The band also worked with Patrick Leonard, best known as producer for Madonna, the David Gilmour fronted Pink Floyd, and Roger Waters solo career. These demos were the last material Van Halen recorded until 2004's The Best of Both Worlds compilation album, which featured three new Sammy Hagar led studio tracks. This would also be the last album worked on until 2012's A Different Kind of Truth, which featured David Lee Roth back in the band. Track listing All songs credited to Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, Gary Cherone and Alex Van Halen.
