Valsa Nair Singh

Valsa Nair Singh is an IAS officer of 1991 batch and Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture Department, Maharashtra government.
Early life and education
Valsa Nair Singh was born in Kochi, Kerala to Mr A P Raman Nair an IPS officer and Mrs Thankamma Nair. She completed her schooling in districts of Kottayam, Kochi and Trivandrum. Graduation in English literature from St. Teresa's College, Kochi and Masters in History from University of Kerala, Kariavattom Campus. Ms Singh completed her Post Graduate diploma in Journalism & Public Relations. She did her masters in Public Policy, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse, USA.
Career
Valsa Nair Singh began her career as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. During her tenure, Ghaziabad witnessed the first crime free assembly elections in 1993. She also worked in the Noida Authority and Greater Noida Authority, the two planned cities of .
In 1998, Ms Singh was transferred to Chandrapur of Maharashtra cadre and later Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region as the Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Parishad. During her tenure in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli district, she worked to implement the Government policies in the sectors of education, employment, women and child development, etc at the most under developed and Naxalite infested areas of the State.
As District Collector of Mumbai City (2006-07) and later as Divisional commissioner (2007-08) for Konkan division comprising the six districts of Coastal Maharashtra, she has been closely associated with the problems of Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
In 2008, Valsa Nair Singh went to New York and completed her Masters in Public Policy from Syracuse University.
Valsa Nair Singh represented the State in the three day seminar held under the aegis of Harvard University in Venice. The first Action Plan for Climate change was conceived and rolled out by the Department during this period.
V.N. Singh was appointed as Principal Secretary (Tourism and Culture) Maharashtra government in 2014. During this time, she initiated the Single Window Aproval System for Film Shootings in the State. The project was launched in Mumbai in 2018 as the first Single Window Film Shooting approvals intheCountry.
In 2017, V.N Singh was appointed as Principal Secretary - Tourism, Civil Aviation and Excise Maharashtra government.
Subsequently, she was appointed as Principal Secretary - Tourism again from 2020 onwards.
