Valentina Azarova (academic)

Valentina Azarova is a German-based scholar of international law.
In 2020 and 2021, she was the center of an academic freedom controversy at the University of Toronto; critics argue that the university withdrew an offer of employment because of donor backlash from her writings on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Education
Azarova has a PhD from the National University of Ireland.
Career
Azarova is an international legal academic. Her carer has included working for the Global legal action network.
She is a co-founder of the Al-Quds Bard College at Al-Quds University, where she also taught the human rights program from 2009 until 2014. The withdrawal of the offer prompted the Canadian Association of University Teachers to censure the University of Toronto, essentially boycotting the university by asking its members to not accept job offers from it.
