UTM Choir is the official choir team of Technology University of Malaysia, (In Malay: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), located in Skudai, Johor. Established in 1999 by Mr. Dwiono Hermantoro, the conductor of the team since establishment until now. The team is the national champion of Intervarsity Choir Competition for year 2002, 2003 and 2004 before the competition is being called off. In 2007, the team managed to emerge as the 1st runner-up coming next after the choir team from Univeriti Malaya in the National Choir Competition for Patriotic Songs in conjunction with the National Day celebration. UTM Choir was one of the two representatives from Malaysia in Choir Olympics 2004 (as known as World Choir Games since year 2006), held in Bremen, Germany. The other team was Fingerprints Chamber Choir, also from Johor. They are ranked 967 in the Musica Mundi World Ranking List for the top 1,000 choirs. The UTM Choir team is well-known of their multi-racial image because the singers are consisted of all races in Malaysia such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, and various ethnics from Sarawak and Sabah, and also foreign international students from countries such as Indonesia and Iran. Some of the famous pieces performed during numerous official ceremony inside and outside of the university are Dirgahayu UTM, Sejahtera Malaysia, Jangkrik Genggong (an Indonesian native song), A Time For Us (theme song from "Romeo and Juliet" musical), Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo The Xin (a Chinese classic, populared by Teresa Teng), Torna A Suriento (An Italian Song sang by Pavarotti among other famous Italian vocalist), Tanjung Puteri(a local malay song from the state of Johor), Cublak-cublak Suweng, and Ku Pinta Lagi among many others. Since the formation of the team in 1999, it has been led by a number of great student leaders. First was Tan Li Ai (1999-2000) then followed by Lum Wan Liang (2001), Michelle Koh (2002), Chua Kok Hong (2003), Niki Gwee (2004 & 2006), Omnopon Jiham (2005), Mohd Iqram (2007), Lau Boon Chun (2008), Jogiana Yii (2009)and Hasmira Ramzan (Current). New members are recruited annually and the current members are constantly looking towards future choral events both local and international.
