Utherverse Inc. (also known as Utherverse Digital Inc.) is an internet networking company focusing on bringing together Web 2.0 technology, 3D virtual environments, and social situations. It was formed to enable the creation of large multi-player online communities. Founded in 2002, Utherverse is the product of the creative collaboration of Ray Schwartz and Brian Shuster. The two advocated bringing the world together on a much greater scale than was currently available. The first creation hosted on the Utherworld platform was their Redlight Center, based on the real life Amsterdam. Red Light Center (commonly referred to as RLC) has an adult theme which is the basis for much of the content. Utherverse released its second "world" in what it now refers to as the "Utherverse", which is called "Virtual Vancouver" which is a less adult themed environment than RLC. Since this release, it has also released a third world which is its first privately owned third party world known as "Rude Virtual". More recently, the groundwork for many more worlds has been laid with the inception of its Virtual World Web (VWW) addition. Utherverse released the Virtual World Web (VWW) platform in early 2010. The VWW is a series of fully customizable interconnected 3D virtual worlds. Just as the World Wide Web is composed of websites, the VWW is made up of virtual worlds. To surf the VWW, users download a 3D Web Browser, and through a URL system unique to the VWW, each world or location has its own 'address', that can be shared with friends or business clients. The Utherverse Concept Essentially, the "Utherverse" is the universe or "Metaverse" that engulfs all of the cities that make up the environment. Cities such as RLC and Virtual Vancouver, while both a part of the big picture, are each separate entities connected to each other by "transport centers". In keeping with its suggestion that there should eventually be "millions of worlds, all of them connected, searchable, and customized..." the company claims it will license the use of its software infrastructure to anyone who wishes to create entire worlds on the scale of either of its existing properties, and even in direct competition with them. The company has recently released the groundwork for this with its Virtual World Web (VWW) option to its service. This enables any member to create a world of their own for personal or business intent. Utherverse.com, the social center, is comparable to Myspace or Facebook but with no content limitation and with some dating website flavor. Freedom of speech and expression, within the confines of the law, are a key factor to the profiles appeal. There is a rewards system (in-network currency, referred to as 'Rays') which pays you for browsing profiles, rating pictures, etc. Email are free for Friends and cost 0.10 rays (10 particles) if you are sending to a non-Friend.
