Urbana sistem

Urbana sistem is a modern realistic self defense system developed in Croatia (Europe) by Sensei Miro Zdunic, M.G.R.Y. (3. Dan Ju-Jitsu, 2. Dan Aiki-Jitsu, Combat Arnis Instructor).

In its core, Urbana is comprised of a score of martial arts, with emphasis on Ju-Jitsu, Wing Chun, Aikido and Arnis (Escrima, Kali).

Of all of these martial arts only the most realistic techniques were selected and incorporated in Urbana sistem. It is defined by its short and quick techniques, without unnecessary movement and theatrality which, when applied correctly, leaves no time for the attacker to react to them.

Main goal of Urbana as a self defence system is to disable the attacker in shortest possible time using any means necessary to ensure your safety.

History

Sensei Zdunic comprised Urbana after 30 years experience in martial arts. His martial arts history includes: Boxing, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Nanbudo, Wing Chun, Aikido, Ju Jitsu and Arnis/Escrima/Kali. As he likes to mention it himself, his view on martial arts and self defence changed when he met sensei Damir Kukulj, a reknowned bodyguard, and the person who broke all of his illusions about martial arts.

Since finishing his training with sensei Kukulj, and beeing given black belt 2. Dan Ju Jitsu, and 2. Dan Aiki Jitsu and the title of Arnis Instructor, sensei Zdunic searched for a way to comprise the best and most usefull techniques he came across in his martial arts development.

Thus the idea of Urbana system was born. He envisioned Urbana as a way to help people on larger scale to be able to defend themselves, without having to train in 2 or more martial arts, and to understand what was necessary for a good and realistic self defence.

On the top of his list of goals in creating Urbana stood: No nonsence approach to self defence!

Based on that he took the best techniques he was taught himself, especially those that he himself had succesfully applied on the street, and wraped them up in an allround system of self defence - Urbana sistem.

Soke Kevin Pell, 8. Dan Hanshi, and founder of Ishin Ryu, a modern, no nonsence style of Ju Jitsu, a person of great stature in martial arts world, was the first one to recognize Urbana as a well comprised self defence system, and welcomed sensei Zdunic and his sistem into his Ishin Ryu federation.
