Under-21 European Football Championships Sponsorship Conflict

Uefa have told Swedish fast-food chain Max to shut down their branch at the Borås Arena during next year's 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship.

*1 april 2008 "I thought it was a joke" says Max's chief executive Richard Bergfors. "It is upsetting and absurd."
*6 june Max restaurant representatives discussed the matter with Borås council and offered to close the restaurant three hours before, during and one hour after matches and instead have two mobile kitchens stationed a little bit away from the arena. However, Uefa has declined this offer and is demanding that Max close completely on match days, with no mobile kitchens.
*21 jule The people delivered a resounding verdict with 93 percent of the 22,000 readers of national newspaper gt.se stating that Max should keep its doors open.
*22 jule Borås won’t be hosting any matches in the Under-21 European football championships for 2009, because fast food restaurant MAX has refused to bow in to pressure from the McDonald’s sponsored UEFA football association
