UKstreetsounds is a London-based online music company. It started in 2005 and its focus is mainly on releasing British sourced music from urban genres such as Grime and Hip hop. Its key aim is to provide promotion and distribution services for UK-based independent artists who don’t currently have the means of getting targeted press and distributing their releases to online stores such as iTunes and Napster. It has been key to the distribution of underground music from artists such as Ghetto and Devlin releasing their Ghetto Gospel and The Art Of Rolling albums respectively. At present it has more than 100 underground artists contributing material to its compilation series which began in 2008. Currently on its fifth volume called Grime Ministers the UKstreetsounds compilations are fast becoming a mainstay of UK urban youth culture getting recognition and tracks from artists ranging from Dizzee Rascal, Ghetto, No Lay, Aftershock, Loudmouth, Smasher, Wiley, Doctor, Wretch 32, Sway, Lethal B, Swiss, Shystie, Mayhem, Durrty Goodz, Ice-kid, N-Dubz, Mike GLC, Choong Fam, Kano, Baby Blue, Bashy, Devlin, Lightnin, JME, Skepta and more. Promulgating innovations as one of its key mainstays, it was the first urban brand to have a podcast series in the UK started in 2005 hosted by Urban World. This has featured artists ranging from Bashy to Estelle and surpasses 80,000 downloads for each podcast edition. It also brought 25 artists onto one track a feat which has not been known to be done before in the UK on the remix of the US rapper the Game’s One Blood backing track which had rave reviews and features on websites such as NME.
