Ujala Shanker (born 17 April 1988) is a social and technology entrepreneur who founded a social enterprise called Stitches. Personal life Ujala was born in Bangalore, India. She studied engineering at VIT University. She graduated from UC Berkeley and lives in California . Career as a Social Entrepreneur Ujala started her journey as a social entrepreneur by founding a small venture called Tractor-Factor which was recognized internationally by Ashoka. Her team was awarded a project grant and was invited to the annual Youth Venture Summit held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in June 2009. She has also advocated her views on Indian education through an article which was published in the Economic Reform Feature Service, Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). US Department of State recently featured Ujala's venture in their eJournal USA issue. Awards 2011: Awarded scholarship 2011: Finalist at 'BoP Narrative Competition' hosted by the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at Cornell University sponsored by USAID and IFC 2009: Awarded $500 grant by Ashoka Foundation, USA 2009: Awarded $1000 by CIPE which is an affiliate of the U.S Chamber of Commerce for her essay on Indian education
