UFV Student Union Society

At University of the Fraser Valley all students are automatically members of the UFV Student Union Society.
The Student Union Society (SUS) is composed of six Executive Members as well as a four community representatives (Disabilities Rep, International Rep, Trades Rep, Aboriginal Rep), and nine at large positions. The SUS elected board members all earn their positions in annual elections, which usually take place between January 15 & March 15. New council takes office on April 1 of each year.
The Student Union Society is non-profit organization created by the students, run by students and for the students of the University of the Fraser Valley.

All of the elected members are working for the students at UFV to make a fantastic environment for them at the University outside the classroom.
This SUS has been operating in one shape or another since 1992; however, it wasn't until 2002 that it started to collect fees to improve its operations for its members.
The current President is Jack Brown, a third year philosophy major who was first elected in 2008 as the VP Finance. The President is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Student Union, while providing strategic direction on issues, policies, and services that affect UFV students. The President is the main spokesperson for the Student Union Society and is also the chair of the UFV Student Union Society’s Board of Directors. The President also serves on a number of other official university bodies.
The current VP Academic is Chelsea Lillbeck, a fourth year kinesiology student who was elected to the position of VP Social in the autumn 2008 by-election. The Vice-President Academic is responsible for monitoring and addressing academic issues faced by the SUS membership. The Vice-President Academic is also responsible for acting as a liaison with local, provincial, and federal representatives on educational matters. The Vice-President Academic also sits on the UFV SUS Development Committee, and chairs the standing Advocacy Committee.
The current VP East is Amara Vanderveen, a third year geography student who was first elected in the 2009 general election. The Vice-President East is to review and promote the activities of the Student Union Society on the Mission and Chilliwack campuses, and act as an acting representative of the students on those campuses. The Vice-President East is to manage the SUS offices outside of the Abbotsford office and submit financial and managerial reports regarding the activities of those offices. The VP East is co-Chair of the Events Committee, and sits on the SUS Development Committee.
The current VP Finance is Chelsea Waterton, a fourth year business major who was first elected in 2008 as a rep at large. The Vice-President Finance is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the UFV Student Union Society budget and sits on the standing Governance Committee, as well as the SUS Development Committee. The Vice-President Finance is to be responsible for keeping the board informed of issues regarding to the finances of the Society, and to create quarterly reports stating the current finances.
The current VP Internal is Jennifer Nelson, a third year child care worker who has been on the SUS board for five years. The Vice-President Internal is responsible for the administration of all SUS Student Organizations. The VPI is also responsible for keeping the Board informed of issues arising on campus and within the UFV community which pertain to the interest of the Society and its membership. The Vice-President Internal chairs the Governance Committee, sits on the SUS Development Committee & helps the President oversee the operations of the Society.
The current VP Social is Craig Hornischfeger, a fourth year general studies student who was first elected to the SUS board in the 2008 general election as a rep at large. The Vice-President Social is responsible for planning and implementation of events and activities for the enjoyment of UFV students. This includes events on all UFV campuses, the Casey's On Campus student lounge, off campus events and much more. The VP Social is also the chair of the Events Committee, and sits on the SUS Development Committee. For more info on what's happening on campus check out our events calendar.
