Ubald Klug (b. 1932) is a Swiss interior designer and architect. Klug was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He studied interior design at the Zurich University of the Arts, before working both in Zurich then Helsinki. From 1958-60, Ubald Klug lived in Paris, where he worked with the sculptor François Stahly. He then moved to Bern, Switzerland and, worked for , a sanitary ware and kitchen manufacturer, as technical director. There he developed numerous kitchen pieces such as the "Bellino" Wash Basin. In 1966 he returned to Paris, and opened his own office for architecture, interior design and design creating advertising and design for the agency Mafia. He was particularly responsible for designs in the context of exhibitions, presentations, and trade fairs. In 1972 he began his independent work as an interior architect and designer. He continues working on projects for exhibitions, showrooms, shops, and restaurants in addition to designing furniture, watches, ceramics, textiles and glass articles, as well as products for the aircraft industry, and has received a number of international design prizes, including the iF Top Ten Award for his "Shell" cabinet, the International Design Award of the State of Baden-Württemberg, and the Swiss Design Prize. His most notable piece is the 1973 "Terrazza" sofa by De Sede, a multi-tiered modular leather sofa in two to four pieces. Inspired by terraced hills of The Alps, it is an icon of 70s design. Many celebrities and musicians of the era, most notably Mick Jagger, were photographed lounging on the Terrazza, and it was also featured prominently in the film , and several episodes of the BBC Programme Blake's 7.
