Tyr Neilsen (born 1959) is an author, designer, illustrator and martial artist. Media Tyr has been a consultant for several Viking/Norse related books, prize winning film projects, TV projects, documentaries, video games, and Viking/Norse arrangements. Tyr was one of the founders of Funcom, Norway's first video games developer. As Creative Director Tyr was involved with developing Funcom's first games. In December 2005, Funcom was the first Norwegian game developer to be listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. In 1995 Tyr started Ingames Interactive. As Creative Director Tyr was responsible for several videogames such as and was creator of, and responsible for design and production of, prize winning and best selling The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix. A debilitating accident ended Tyr's video game career. Since the accident Tyr has worked as consultant in the media industry and Viking world. Martial Arts Tyr has trained martial arts since 1973, and is now senior instructor at Drammen Ju Jitsu Club, a member of Ju Jitsu Norway. Tyr has taught martial arts in the UK, USA and Norway since the mid 80's, and is experienced in many martial art styles. He has studied in England, France and USA, with many world famous martial artists such as Larry Hartsell, Nino Bernado, and Salem Assli, and with legends Dan Inosanto (at the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Los Angeles) and Terry O’Neill (Black Belt magazine's "deadliest fighter on the planet". Tyr was first introduced to Viking swordfighting in England in the early 80's. After moving to Norway in the late 80's, Tyr's father in-law introduced him to Glima, the Scandinavian martial art system used by the Vikings. Tyr has been teaching Viking armed and unarmed combat since the mid 90's, and is now senior instructor at the Academy of Viking Martial Arts, in Buskerud, Norway. Tyr is also president of the Norwegian Glima Association. In 2011 Tyr traveled over 25,000 km to 9 different countries, and several isles, to participate in Viking martial art demonstrations, shows, and festivals. He has held talks, seminars and workshops regarding the Hávamál, the Viking Age, Norse Mythology, Norse Spirituality and Viking martial arts, in schools and museums in several countries. Hávamál Tyr co-authored the book "Viking Wisdom - HÁVAMÁL - the Sayings of Odin", published in 2014 by Nova Forlag. The book is out in Norwegian, in English, and as an eBook. This book is one of the most complete books about the Hávamál, and Tyr traveled to Iceland for an exclusive meeting with the original Hávamál manuscript written in the year 1270. Robert Ferguson, author of Vikings (the Hammer and the Cross), which was used as the basis for the , wrote the foreword for Viking Wisdom - HÁVAMÁL - the Sayings of Odin.
