Types of mourning of Muharram

Types of mourning of Muharram is referred to special ceremonies for commemoration of death of Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of Muhammad and sun of Ali ibn Abi Talib, and his companion which hold among Shia Muslims in Muharram, lunar month.
Etymology
The root of Azadari is aza (Arabic: عزا ‎), which means to hold a commemoration of the dead. Azadari is translated as mourning.
History
The mourning of Muharram belongs to commemorating the death of Husayn ibn Ali at battle of Karbala in 680 AH and culminates on tenth day of Muharram, lunar month, called day of Ashura. The origin of mourning is in Arab Iraq. However, they were held in Iran as early as the twelfth century, when both Sunni and Shia participated in them. During the reign of Safavid dynasty the ceremonies related to the mourning of Muharram was exchanged to national ceremonies. The common type of mourning were beating the chest or beating oneself with chain in format of ritual procession and Maqtal al-Husayn, the various books written by different authors throughout the centuries which narrate the story of the battle of Karbala and the death of Husayn ibn Ali, Noha and Marsia, an elegiac and religious poem written to commemorate the death of Husayn ibn Ali and his comrades of the Karbala, was recited to the mourners. The mourning took place in assemblies held in buildings erected especially for the purpose, known either as Hussainiya or Tekyeh, as well as in mosques and private houses. The Commemoration of death of Husayn ibn Ali and his companions culminated in the middle of nineteenth century. At this time it was extended to countries like Middle East, Caucasus, India, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Beat their chest
The mourning of Muharram include some ritual that Shia Muslim lamented in procession the killing of Husayn ibn Ali. On type of mourning is the beating breasts. In other word, mourners stand in queue and strip to the waist (for greater exposure), then beat their chests with their palms. Iraq, and Iran.
Flagellation
Flagellation, in religion, the disciplinary or devotional practice of beating with whips or chains. Flagellation is currently performed by some Shia Muslims, who beat their chest with chain on the day of Ashura.
Taziya
Taziya is the dramatic theater to honor the death of Husayn ibn Ali in battle of Karbala. In etymology, the root of the Taziya is referred to aza means commemorating the dead.
