TSB Ravensburg

TSB 1847 Ravensburg (also known as Ravensburg Rugby Club or Ravensburg Ravens Rugby Club) is a German rugby union team in the Baden Württemberg region of Germany. The team is part of TSB Ravensburg, a larger club that offers various sports such as, football, handball, in-line hockey, judo, volleyball, gymnastics and many more.
History
The origin of the 'Ravens' (as they are known in the region) comes from a small town in the Ravensburg area called Roggenzell. Being introduced as a 'new sport', the club had a small amount of players of different age groups (23 to 40), in the actual town and a few others joining from Ravensburg. Many of them hadn't actualy played a rugby match before joining the club, and had a slight idea of what had to be done in the field thanks to the television and internet.
RC Roggenzell was the closest place where the people from Ravensburg could play XV men rugby, since there where no other rugby clubs in the area. However by the end of the year 2004, a big portion of the players of RC Roggenzell where actually from Ravensburg, so they decided to create a rugby club in their home town, to avoid long distance driving.
The Birth of the Ravens
During the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005, the Ravens future players applied to be registered in Baden-Württemberg Rugby Association and the German Rugby Federation, and they also decided to apply as candidates in the Württemberg's State Sports Association to gain some statal support from their own council.
On Tuesday May 3rd of 2005, the Ravensburg Ravens Rugby Club had their first trainning session in the Schwarzwäldle Sports Field, in Ravensburg. They also decided that the colours used for their kit would be Black, Blue and White. After promoting the sport and the creation of a rugby club in Ravensburg, they welcomed a variety of nationalities during their first training sessions, people from Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Mexico, Italy and Romania.
The first friendly game was held on June 2005 against former team mates, and now local rivals RC Roggenzell. Despite their efforts made both outside and inside the field, the Ravens lost 0-77.
The merge with TSB
Since their foundation, the Ravens Rugby Club had been looking for a floodlit place where they could train. So after several meetings, in September 2005, TSB Ravensburg, the biggest Sports Club in the city of Ravensburg, decided to include Rugby in their curricula . This ment that the club was now to be called TSB Ravensburg Ravens Rugby Club.
