Travians

Travians is an award-winning role playing real-time browser-based game developed by Travian Games GmbH, released on 19 February 2008. It works using Ajax, and is playable free of charge.
It won the 2007 "Browser Game of the Year" title, along with awards for Best use of technology, Best Gameplay and Best role-playing game in a Galaxy News competition.
Gameplay
Travians is more social than Travian, with a focus on communication rather than war. For instance, a chat box is permanently displayed and the use of messaging is encouraged. However, as in the MMORTS Travian, on registering to play Travians, one can choose between three different tribes: the Romans, the Teutons, and the Gauls. Depending on the tribe chosen, the appearance of the player's character will change. The player is given control of their character, a house, and can also receive a pet pig from "Uncle Horatio" (Pronounced Hor-ash-io). Once they complete certain quests, they are given access to a village. By harvesting resources and selling them in the NPC (non-player character) market or to other players, they earn gold, silver, and bronze, which is the currency in the game.
The bonus cycle
Social points (SP) are awarded for actions in each 15 minute period, once for each period and up to 5 times per day for each action. This is important for players wishing to gain maximum SP and also helps to impose a "beat" to the game by bringing players together for the same reason at particular time periods.
*0-14 - Arena fight bonus
*15-29 - Tavern Minigame bonus
*30-44 - Community Action (bath or food event in a large player or guild owned house, a certain number of players are required for full bonus)
*45-59 - Trade bonus
The Icon at the top left changes to indicate the current bonus.
Currency and points
The currency can be used to purchase armor and weapons for fights in the arena, training to get an upper hand while fighting, and tools to enhance resource production. By gathering resources, players change their Occupation Points (OP) into Action Points (AP). For every OP they use, it becomes one AP. The Action Points can be used to play mini-games, picks herbs to make into potions to get the upper hand in the arena, pick mushrooms to create delicious meals (Be careful not to eat the poisonous ones!), to study at libraries or earn exp, and to work at the tavern. Through using AP at the tavern, players receive Social Points (SP) that can be used to buy furniture for their in-game house along with bigger and better houses themselves.
Purchased currency
An additional currency, diamonds, can be purchased, and while not essential, it allows some extra features. For example, the Gold club, which costs 15 diamonds per 7 days, is the "members bonus" option, giving several advantages.
Other diamond uses tend to be one-off costs for things such as:
* Higher performance tools
* Modify level requirements of equipment
* Some luxury furniture items
While there are many other diamond capabilities, it is not essential to use them, and each account starts with 35.
Differences between Travian and Travians
The game differs from Travian in several important respects. There is an ongoing storyline which extends over many months. Gameplay takes place on a scrolling area, with additional sections becoming accessible as the storyline advances. There is considerable interaction with a number of non-player characters in order to complete the numerous assigned quests. Contests between human players are non-destructive.
Generations
When a Travians player reaches day 111 ongoing to day 112, he/she will be 'reborn' into the next generation; so far there are 8 generations although it never stops. When a player turns a different generation they keep their house, social points, furniture, diamonds, guild/clubs, their friends list, house inventory, messages, any honor coronals and up to 200 gold if they own it. The gold is paid back daily at 20 gold for up to 10 days (if below 20 gold total, the amount is paid the first day in the new generation). Everything else is lost. After they change their generation they will start over from day 0, and have the chance to change their Travians tribe (Roman, Gaul, and Teuton) as well as their gender. This is the last time they can do that.
There are 'quests' to do in generations 1 - 3 which are based on the story line of the travians' life. As from generation 4 no more quests at the moment, but the chance to earn 'rewards' through solving puzzles.
