Transparency International Kenya
Transparency International Kenya is an autonomous chapter in Transparency International movement, a global non-governmental organisation that monitors and publicises corporate and political corruption.
History
TI-Kenya was founded in 1999 with the aim of advocating for a transparent and corruption free Kenya to achieve good governance and social justice. John Githongo was appointed first Executive Director TI Kenya on 23 December 1999. The current Executive Director is Samuel Kimeu while the board is chaired by the former head of Kenya’s civil service Dr. Richard Leakey.
Corruption in Kenya
Political corruption has been a problem in post independent Kenya with the country scoring poorly in corruption surveys. In the 2010 Corruption Perception Index published by Transparency International, Kenya scored was positioned 154 out of 178 countries surveyed.
Kenya has been hit by several high profile corruption scandals which include; the Goldenberg scandal of the 1990s, Anglo Leasing, 2009 Triton Oil Scandal, and the 2009 Kenyan Maize Scandal

Corruption Perception Index
TI-Kenya has been publishing the Kenya Bribery Index annually since 2001. The Kenya Police perpetually topped this index.
East Africa Bribery Index
In July 2009, TI Kenya published the first East African Bribery index showing the state of corruption in the 5 East African countries ; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. This was followed up by the 2010 East African Bribery index the following year
Global Corruption Report
TI Kenya contributes to the production of the Global Corruption Report, an annual publication that provides insight on the level of corruption across several countries in the world, giving a picture from Kenya’s point of view.
Kikulacho
In 2010, TI - Kenya produced a documentary dubbed 'Kikulacho - The Bite Within' that tells the story of corruption in Kenya from the post-colonial period.
The film premiered just three weeks before the 2010 constitutional referendum in which Kenyans overwhelmingly voted for a new Constitution and is still being used by TI Kenya in civic education forums across Kenya.
also examines Kenya's historical issues like flawed electoral process which led to the 2007-2008 post election violence as well as the emotive land issue that was identified by Kenya National Commission Human Rights in its report on the post election violence - ‘On the brink of the precipice : A human rights account of Kenya's post 2007 election violence’, as one of the underlying causes of the violence.
Kikulacho was nominated in the Best TV documentary in the 2010 KALASHA awards, an annual film award organised by the Kenya Film Commission.
Advocacy and Legal Advisory Centre (ALAC)
An Advocacy and Legal Advisory Centre (ALACs) is a walk in or call in centre where citizens can obtain free and confidential legal advice on corruption. The ALACs have been established in Coast (Mombasa), North Rift(Eldoret)- and Nairobi.
