Timeline of Events
Tracey was born to Walter and Marlene Theyerl in Sheboygan, Wisconsin December 21 of 1970. She has one older brother, Ted, born 2 yrs. earlier in 1968. After graduating from Elkhart Lake High School in 1989, she went to undergraduate school at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she was a member of the varsity Nordic Ski Team for one year. She then transferred to Northern Michigan University to further pursue her Nordic skiing interest. After a reportedly rough first year, she went on to become the school most valuable runner and the captain of the ski team. After graduating, she went to the University of Wyoming for graduate studies in Sports Physiology. Cote raced competitively after graduating in skiing, mountain biking, and adventure racing. After her competitive career ended, she moved to coaching in 1998 - her first (and current) ski coaching job is at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
Ski Racing Tracey started racing competitively at NMU under Sten Fjeldheim. She raced NCAA Nationals from her sophomore to her senior year, claiming that her best finish was a top 15. Her racing career didn't peak until after college though, when she raced for Team Atomic. Any results that can be dug up from her racing career would be history and should be posted here.
Other Racing
In 2002, Colby Magazine ran an article highlighting Tracey's racing on the Hi-Tec adventure racing circuit as Team Guinness. The article is here.
In 2003, Tracey raced on a three person team with her husband Pat to win the New York Wild Onion urban adventure race.
The last major adventure race that Tracey participated in was the 2003 Primal Quest in Lake Tahoe, UT. She raced on Team Racing Ahead with her husband Pat, Vytenis Benetis, and Richard Anderson. There is an article on the team here
Coaching
Tracey began her collegiate coaching career in 1998 when coming to Colby College. She was the first dedicated Nordic coach at the college.
Cote's team, Colby Nordic, races primarily in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA). In the 2006-2007 season, Cote coached her men's team to the best finishes it has seen since she assumed the position in 1998.
