Tour Egypt is a tourism company that organizes preset and customized tours for people to visit Egypt. It also runs TourEgypt.net, a website containing over 16,000 pages containing content about Egyptian history, destinations, cuisine, contemporary issues, and travel advice. History In 1994, the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt, asked InterCity Oz, Inc. to develop its first website about Egypt. Jimmy Dunn, the president of InterCity Oz, now one of the world’s oldest web development companies, accepted the Ministry of Tourism’s contract to develop a joint website for both the Ministry of Tourism of Egypt and the Egyptian Tourist Authority. Work began in 1995 with a staff of ten researchers who spent the next six months writing over 5,000 pages about Ancient Egypt and Egyptian tourism. The site was placed online under the name TourEgypt.net in 1996. After initial development, Jimmy Dunn took a special interest in Egypt and continued to update the Tour Egypt website, along with various other writers over the next ten years, while also managing the site for the Ministry and Egyptian Tourist Authority. Dunn visited Egypt numerous times, meeting with tourism officials and tourism industry personnel, as well as doing research and photography for future articles about Egypt. Many of his visits included Egyptian destinations where tourists rarely visit. In addition, Tour Egypt supported a vast network of Egyptian tourism companies, while at the same time, monitoring the tourists who used them. Through a network called the AETBI (Association of Egyptian Travel Businesses on the Internet), Tour Egypt worked with hundreds of tour operators in Egypt and tour organizers outside of Egypt. This resulted in not only a large stream of tourists to these organizations, but also considerable work to improve the tourism industry of Egypt. At the same time, Tour Egypt worked as a conduit for settling any sort of problems tourists might have, and generally working with tourists to help them with their tour planning. Operations Tour Egypt is the owner of one of the oldest websites on the internet, and one of the oldest ones specific to Egypt. This site has long been used by educators on every level from first grade through university studies, governments, museums and even references for other writers including those preparing textbooks. It offers scholarly articles on historical as well as contemporary issues. A team of writers and developers at Tour Egypt work on managing and constantly providing free and relevant information for the website. For many years, Tour Egypt worked directly with the Egyptian government, its tourism organizations, and tour industry leaders throughout Egypt. Today, Tour Egypt also organizes its own customized tours all over Egypt.
