Tong Il Lo

Tong IL Lo or "Path to Unity" was created in 1994 by combining Aikido, Kenpo Karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai and Jujutsu. William McDonald and the late Gilbert Narvaez used their 40 years martial arts experience to create a street self-defense system.

History

William McDonald began his training in 1972 in Texas. McDonald has attained several grades in martial arts including a 6th degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, a 2nd degree Black Belt in Moo Duk Kwan, 1st degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, Instructors level in Muay Thai & Master level in the art of Kubudo (weapons).

In 2003, the International Martial Arts Headfounders-Grandmaster’s Council
promoted him to 10th Degree Black Belt. He was the first Grandmaster chosen to receive an award from Who’s Who in Martial Arts for his outstanding achievements. Including in his successes, McDonald was honored to serve as a member of the Board of Directors, of the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame, from 2004 to 2007.

More recently, McDonald developed the Civilian Defense Program (CDP). He designed this program for those who might not want to be in a structured martial art environment, but still wishes to defend themselves in a realistic and practical form.

In 1980, Gilbert Narvaez began his studies in the martial arts. Narvaez excelled in several forms of combat during the years of his training. In which, he attained a 2nd degree Black belt in the system of Aiki-jujutsu. During his martial art career, Narvaez was exposed to other systems, such as Hung Gar Kung Fu, Bagua and Muay Thai. Between 1989 and 1991, Narvaez fought both as an amateur and a professional with the North Western Kickboxing Association and the International Kickboxing Association.

More recently, Narvaez co-founded Tong Il Lo. In 1995 , he began teaching professionally for the Hot Shots Self-Defense program. Holding the title of “Curriculum Coordinator” & “Chief Instructor” for the Tong Il Lo discipline. Narvaez conducted seminars and played an active roll in the teaching and developing the skills of the Tong Il Lo students.
