Thomas “Tomakira” Li is a Hong Kong/Tokyo based fashion designer. He studied at Japan’s Bunka Fashion College, but did not graduate and left to pursue his own creative endeavors. After leaving college, Li worked as a freelance designer for five years. Between 2003 and 2008 he designed clothes and costumes for numerous Asian top artists and celebrities. In 2008, Li began working on his own personal high street fashion label Mostly Heard Rarely Seen (MHRS). Li’s label is a reflection of the street cultures that thrive in Tokyo and Hong Kong. Throughout his career, Li has maintained a low personal profile. He has never had his picture taken and remains anonymous at his own shows and presentations. All media contact is dealt with via fax or written communications. After launching his label, Li’s mysterious behavior has become even more secretive - reflecting his brand’s motto “mostly heard rarely seen.” In the past five years, Li remains completely out of the public eye and believes in letting his designs and products to speak for him.
