Tom Sloane is a major recurring character in the animated television series, Daria. He is a romantic interest for Jane Lane and then Daria Morgendorffer in turn in the concluding two seasons of the series.

Background
He is a boy born into a wealthy family, but prefers to not to flaunt it while having unpretentious tastes that value integrity and intelligence. He has a younger sister, Elsie.

He studied in Fielding Preparatory Academy and after graduation was accepted into the freshman class at Bromwell University.

Relationships with Jane & Daria
He initially appeared in the 3rd season finale, "Jane's Addition," when Jane began a relationship with him. Daria felt deeply threatened by this intruder into her cherished friendship with Jane and made no secret of her disdain for him. However, Tom confronted and reassured her that Jane deeply values her friendship and he never intended to change that. Although it took some time, Daria eventually warmed to the charming and witty young man and accepted him.

As the 4th season progressed, Jane and Tom's relationship deteriorated through a growing mutual boredom punctuated by some bitter arguments and an equally growing attraction with Daria and Tom. This came to a head in "Dye, Dye My Darling" when Tom and Daria impulsively kissed with an unexpected passion. This development caused a traumatic rift in Daria and Jane's friendship, but all three parties reconciled in the film Is It Fall Yet?."

Tom continued to be the love interest for Daria throughout the final season, displaying considerable patience and humor with the young cynic's unaccustomed romantic struggles and self doubts. However, in the series finale, Is It College Yet?, Daria unilaterally broke up with him because she felt they were too different and their relationship would not survive while they studied at different colleges. Tom was deeply upset at this rejection while Daria was guilt ridden over this decision; however, the pair partially reconciled again and agreed to keep in touch as friends.
