Tjipikita Hipondoka

Tjipikita Hipondoka was born in Angola in 1922-06-06 in a small village known as Eujungu. Though this leader was born in Angola his life didn't end in angola. Having born by the traditional people Chief Tjipikita father's Tjanambuala and mother's Tjepongo were force to sell their cattle to take their child to school, the fact that parents didn't know they important of the school they decide to escape to Namibia. They come in namibia in 1931 via kunene River known as Otjihandjavelo Tjombunga nolutjindo in the 1930's.
In Namibia Chief Tjipikita in his age grew with his parents as a farmer until 1958 when he left his parents due to poverty to seek for work in white houses. At age of 36 Tjipikita left Kunene region which was know as Okaokoland to Keetmanshop for work. He worked there and until 1967 when he was told his father was ill and needed him to come back as his old son. He did not take time when he comes back but marry his wive Uakangonga Tjipikita who was for in 1941-02-17. with his parents they live in different places such Olwe, Ombuku, Otjiulunga, Ovinyange, Ehama, Okohonga, Okangwati and many others
In 1978 after having his three first in children he was Hunted by SWAPO liberation movement military after being accused of being a spy and citing DTA, this was the time he left his Cultivation and Livestock and escape his family from Okohonga to Okangwati, the same military followed him, He had spend his days hiding in the bush and shrubs, Only after Ovahimba chief at the moment Muniomuholo Kapika went on to talk to the military that he wasn't as spy. Chief Tjipikita went on few km away from Okangwati and name a vacant place Ovituaombu(is a good place if you can add a water source) now known as Ovituambu. he was known for this place as he was the founder and is where he lived until his death in 2010.

How did he become a chief?

His reaction toward Chief Kapika
Being the founder of the place all ovadhemba from angola usually come ask habitant from him, The ovadhemba chief in Kunene that time was Kosombo but then he was attacked by the ovahimba chief Hikuminue Kapika in 1979 for land. The chief claim the kaokoland belong to Ovahimba people not Ovadhemba people, with his troupe Chief Kapika attacked Chief Kosombo and tied him in an Acacia tree in the river of Okangwati, the chief Kosombo couldn't react due to lack of support and he feared to death after being threaten. Tjipikita heard that his Chief was attacked and tied for 3 days in the tree and he was given two options to tell all ovadhemba people to leave Namibia within the next 5 days. He 'll die in that tree. Chief Tjipikita reacted on this matter facing Chief Kapika and his troupe for a physical, the Troupe wanted to react toward this fight but the chief seek the issue to be handled with peace.
Chief Tjipikita freed Chief Kosombo and both ovahimba and Ovadhemba community set for the issue and they didn't reach any agreement, Chief Kapika called the Ombudsman to scare the ovadhemba people, with encouragement from Chief Tjipikita told his Ovadhemba group which was a small group compared to ovahimba troupe which was dominating. Ombudsman meeting was held at Epupa in 1979-04-23 which alluded it was no man's land and no one had authorities to haunt anyone, Only from these meeting the Ovadhemba people of Kaokoland selected him to replace chief Kosombo.
Tjipikita's other contribution
Being a chief until Independence, Tjipikita contribute much on the Community development like, school was build in his name, water source and ovaDhemba people were then recognized for being the neglected groups. He was part of Oludhimba bible translation committee, Oludhimba language being formalized, Oludhimba adults literature teaching and learning program, he was also part of ovadhemba group which was attacked in Ruacana.
Chief Tjipikita was not Ovadhemba paramount chief in Namibia but Ovadhemba Senior Chief under the Ovadhemba paramount Chief Tjikulya</
Death of Chief Tjipikita Hipondoka
Chief Tjipikita died in the car accident in 2010-11-21, these occasion happen after we went to attend Ombudsman meeting which was held at Okangwati, after the meeting on his way home Chief took a hike with Police vehicle with overturned 500m toward his home in Ovituambu. he was buried in Ovituambu, but a monument showing where accident occurred was also build in Ovituambu.
After death

The Chief position was given to His Elder son Papina Tjipikita who had succeeded his father as a Senior Chief of Ovadhemba under paramount Chief Tjikulya.
