TimeShift Trivia

TimeShift Trivia was a Canadian game show which airs across the country on Saturday mornings on Global. It was hosted by Jason Agnew and Tina Teggart. Timeshift Trivia had four live episodes every Saturday morning from 1am-2am in each local time zone (exceptions were 1:30am-2:30am in Newfoundland and Labrador and 2am-3am in the Central time zone).
Call for Cash
Timeshift Trivia was an interactive game show in which the viewers at home were the contestants. In order to participate, the at-home viewer either called their 1-900 number, which cost $1.99 per call; they could text into the show, which cost $2 per text; or the viewer could enter for free online on the TimeShift Trivia website. Every fifth person who entered qualified and had their phone number entered into a pool of numbers, and throughout the program the show's producers randomly called back one of the numbers that had been entered into the pool of numbers. The person who received a call back went on the air, and provided an answer in hopes of winning a cash prize.
The Game
This quiz usually has 10 covered words on a board corresponding to the celebrity topic of the day. Throughout the program, the hosts gave clues to the answers which were on the board, and they encouraged the at-home viewers to call in and participate to win cash.
Trivia Game
In the final segment of the show, the contestant is selected to play TimeShift Trivia live on the air via telephone, and they are given one minute to answer five questions. Each of the following categories features one question:
*Sports
*Television
*Hollywood
*Music
*Wild-Card
When a contestant answered a question wrong, the game ended, and no additional questions were revealed. The contestant received a dollar value associated with the correct questions they had answered.
If a contestant answered all five questions correctly, they qualified as a regional finalist (a region is defined as one of the following timezones: Atlantic, Eastern, Central/Mountain, Pacific). In the event that there were more than one regional qualifiers, they played down to a single qualifier during the thirteenth week of the program. The successful regional finalists then played for the 2008 National Championship. If there was only one person who answered all five questions correctly in a region, they were automatically the regional finalist. In the event that no one answered all five correctly in the region, the next best accumulative correctly answered questions then qualified contestants. A minimum of three correct answers is required to be considered for the competition.
Regional Semi-Finalist
The semi-final playdown was conducted by telephone, and not featured on the television broadcast. All telephone conversations were recorded to validate the fair and even game play. Each semi-finalist was called independently, and was given one minute to answer five questions. Each semi-finalist was asked the same questions. The champion was determined by most correctly answered questions, and if there was tie, the winner was the person who answered the questions in the shortest amount of time.
TimeShift Trivia Championship
All qualifiers per region will play down to one regional finalist. If a region does not have a finalist, that region will not have any representation in the championship.
The championship will be conducted by telephone, which will all be recorded to ensure fair game play. Each of the championship previously recorded telephone questions and answers will be featured on the television broadcast. Each regional semi-finalist will be asked five identical questions, as the champion will have the most correct answers. If there is a tie, the person who answered the most correct questions in the shortest amount of time will win the championship, and a prize of $5000.
