Tim Lively

Tim Lively (December 17, 1957 - ) is an American Knifemaker who is credited for repopularizing the use of natural charcoal in bladesmithing
forges. Lively designed a widely used bladesmithing forge with a long horizontal tuyere surrounded by adobe.

Knifemaking
Tim made and sold his first knives on a part time basis starting in 1974. in 1992 Tim became a Professional Knifemaker focusing on the craft as a full time profession. He has used both stock removal and forging as knifemaking methods, but is best known for his closely forged "Neotribal" or "Primal" blades.
Starting in 1993, Tim was a charter member of the Professional Knifemaker's Association and remained in the association until 1995.
Tim and Marian Lively became founding members of the Neo-Tribal
Metalsmiths in 1995. In 1999, Tim brought the organization to the internet via the
first Neo-Tribal Website. In 2000, Tim created and was the administrator of
the first Neo-Tribal forum on the internet. Tim was also the originator of
the name, Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths and the title of the newsletter, Tribal Now.
In the year 2000, Tim and Marian were two of the featured artisans in the
Hood's Woods video production of Primitive Knifemaking which is Volume 9 in
the Woodsmaster Series.
In 2001, Tim joined The American Bladesmith Society.
In 2002, the much anticpated Knifemaking Unplugged was made by Tim and Marian. This was a longer and more in-depth video that showcased the "Unplugged" way of knifemaking. The video was produced, filmed, and edited by Tim and Marian Lively as well as being the featured artisans in the video. In 2004 Knifemaking Unplugged goes from VHS to DVD worldwide. Since then it has become available for instant download on Amazon.com.
