Thuppariyum Anandan

Thuppariyum Anandhan () is a forthcoming Indian Tamil action film written and directed by Gautham Menon, featuring Surya Sivakumar and Sameera Reddy in the lead role. The venture is jointly produced by Menon's Photon Kathaas and RS Infotainment. It will have Gautham's usual crew working on this project which include the team of scriptwriters and editor Anthony Gonsalves, while all other members of the crew include cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran after their successful collaboration in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa.
Production
Casting
In September 2010, after the release of Ajith Kumar's 49th film Asal and Gautham Menon's film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa were completed, it was officially announced by Gautham that he would be directing Ajith's 50th film titled Thuppariyum Anandhan and that it would star Samantha Ruth Prabhu in it. It was also suggested by him that it would be an action film with Ajith portraying the role of a police. This was touted to be part of Gautham's police triology after the successful films Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. However as Gautham and Ajith became involved in other projects, Thuppariyum Anandhan was halted. Gautham went on to direct an experimental film titled Nadunisi Naaygal with newcomers and Ajith went on to star in Mankatha under the direction of Venkat Prabhu. This eventually released as Ajith's 50th film. It was also suggested that there was some difference of opinion between Ajith and Gautham.
Filming
After being shelved for a year, Gautham went on to sign actor Vijay and Sameera Reddy to play the titular character for a film titled Yohan:Adhyayam Ondru under Gautham's home banner Photon Kathaas in partnership with Eros Entertainment. It was suggested that this was the script of Thuppariyum Anandhan; but to be released with a change in title and star cast. A couple of days after speculations on this project was doing rounds, a photoshoot took place and a pre-production poster was leaked on the internet. The poster became a viral on social networking websites. There were many questions raised in regards to further cast and crew, which were not stated on the poster. The makers to this oppurtunity and added on to the existing publicity by releasing more posters day after day with the posters suggesting that this film was to be an investigative series and that there will be sequels in the making post the first release. The following posters also featured more details about the crew and it was official that music composer AR Rahman would compose for the film post a successful collaboration with Gautham in his earlier venture Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. However after a year of no progress, the project was shelved once more with Gautham stating the project was not taking place any time soon due to the protagonist Vijay having prior films to complete and Gautham focusing on a Romance film titled Neethaane En Ponvasantham that was to be released as a trilingual. He also went on to say that he will work with Vijay soon with another project.
Within days, Gautham suggested that he will be working with Surya Sivakumar on a project, who he had previously worked with in two films, Kaakha Kaakha and Vaaranam Aayiram. He also signed on Sameera Reddy who was supposed to be a part of Yohan Adyayam:Ondru for the film. It is also noted that Suriya and Sameera Reddy acted together in a previous venture directed by Gautham Menon and their pair went on to become a great hit. It is also rumoured that the films is to be set in the 1970's era with the use of Computer animation to bring back to life a deceased actor Jaishankar who was known for the detective characters he portrayed.
Controversies
When the pre- production posters of Yohan:Adhyayam Ondru released, many stated that the poster was ripped of the poster of , a film with a crime investigation genre too. This caused many to wonder whether the film consisted of a similar storyline. However rumours were dusted away by Gautham himself. Gautham also had attended a college function where he was asked by the audience when he would be working with Ajith Kumar and his reply was I don't know anyone as Ajith and he followed that by saying he is ready to work with him but is Ajith ready to work with Gautham. This had irked many Ajith fans and Gautham begun to receive threatening messages through social networking sites.
