Throw It Down

Throw It Down is a 2008 documentary movie about the Bluecoats Drum Corps of Canton, Ohio, created to serve as an introduction to the physical and emotional rigors of this avocation.
Background
The film takes its name from the taunting challenge one knight made to another when throwing down his gauntlet, the gloved sleeve knights wore while jousting. The "throw it down" expression is used several times during the course of the documentary and its context usually conveys a sense of all out exertion -- the members of the corps are said to "throw it down" when they expend all their energies on their performances. Participants in drum corps are usually college music students, although some high school students as young as 15 or 16 make the cut of many corps. The film was made during the Summer 2006 season of the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps, following the members as they learn, practice and perfect an 11 to 12-minute show.
The Bluecoats are one of about 25 drum corps who participate in the annual Drum Corps International (DCI) finals, held annually in August, though they themselves have never won the finals. The documentary seeks to show the challenging mixture of musicianship and athleticism requiring a great deal of practice and commitment.
