Thor David Hesla (April 1, 1962 - January 14, 2008) was the only American killed in the 2008 Kabul Serena Hotel attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. Hesla had been in the country since the previous October working with BearingPoint under contract with the United States Agency for International Development to help build a civil society Previously he had spend four years working on a redevelopment project in Kosovo. Hesla was exercising at the gym of the five star hotel in the Green Zone when suicide bombers and gunmen stormed the building. A long time political campaigner, Hesla managed the successful 1998 campaign of David Wu for the U. S. House of Representatives. Hesla had also managed the Presidental campaign of Bill Bradley Memorial After a week, over 45,000 hits had been received on a virtual memorial page, making clear the impact Hesla had on those who knew him.
