Themis Band

Themis Music is a Wicca Canadian Wicca music project located in Toronto, Ontario.
The Themis band itself has become increasingly popular in Canada despite a very narrow focus (Wicca Rock) and is slated to open the 2009 "Spirits of The Earth Festival" near London, Ontario Canada and is included among the bands selected (from over 3,100) to play at the Canadian National Woodstock Concert (Woodstock, Ontario) on July 31, 2009.
Inspiring A New Music Genre and Way of Life
Themis centres visibly in one of the fastest growing faith groups in North America, the earth-friendly Wicca faith growing 100% every year and a half. Concomitantly it has been said that human activity is dramatically altering many biological processes and environmental systems. Strong scientific evidence also supports the contention that these alterations are destructive and global in scale. Governments and people of the world are increasingly concerned.

"What does the study of world religions contribute to our understanding and stewardship of the environment? New movements in modern theological scholarship direct attention to the biological realm as well as the spiritual"

The Themis Music project in Canada, comprising a number of elements including a musical group Themis, a recording studio, wilderness retreats and a Teen 'Safe House' has emerged in recent years alongside a surge in growth of Wicca, increasing interest in ecotheology, and the apparent failings of the Kyoto Protocol.
A strong thread in the artistic work of the Themis band is the Wiccan 'spirit of the earth' and 'love of life' and nature. Lyrical references to the "Love of Life", the "Forest of Life", "the Honeyed Fountain", "the gentle caress of a warm summer breeze" focus on the Wiccan belief in nature's divinity.
The project is promoted to nature-loving Wiccans from all over the world to woodland retreats; drumming circles; rural studios; band camps; and nature learning experiences. at "The Birches"] Themis promotes unity among all peoples through the power of music and common beliefs.
Studios
Themis Music operates studios in Ontario, Canada as well as contracting out the building of music studios for professional recording, digital editing, mastering, production and musical arrangement.
Canadian Band Camp
Themis Music is a principal organizer of the 'Ontario Band Camp' each year in the third weekend of September . Held on Lake Joseph, in central-Ontario Canada, Themis Band Camp facilitates musicians coalescing in a Wiccan ideology-oriented, natural environment.
A Musical, Wiccan EcoTheology duo
Heading the project and led by a woman who calls herself "The Countess" are a Canadian male-female duo who describe themselves as "Vegans. Eclectic Wiccans. Musicians", in their bio at . The two also operate a "Safe House" for endangered teens
The Themis musical ensemble project promotes Wiccan philosophy in its published songs and music as well as in written texts, debates, articles and teachings. Embedded in the Canadian music project's published explanations of the Themis's musical inspirations, is a clear adoption of Wiccan ecotheology and a hint of Dianic Feminism. The Countess and Ruffian Angel form both a musical, philanthropic and religious partnership: they are a High Priest and a High Priestess who have each undergone the three degrees of Wiccan initiation and are certified as Chaplin in Canada, capable of performing Wicca weddings.
Ecology and nature
Themis Music delivers vividly descriptive stories about life, nature, conservation and unfettered love, accompanied by an entertaining live musical stage act which attracts attention to the Themis Music Project's ecotheological Wicca cause. The songs carry through and meld with one another as in a rock opera, promulgating their message: "The beauty of this day is not lost on me...On this wooden log in the Forest of Life, I carve my flute with my hands and my knife for the Love of Life" as in their hit 'Love of Life' .
Creed
Themis Music publishes a creed of sorts. Themis Music Studios favour musicians with a Wiccan flavour.
Themis lyrics speak of "awe in watching the sunrise or sunset; the forest of life in the light of a glowing moon; a meadow enchanted by the first light of day; the morning dew on the petals of a beautiful flower; the gentle caress of a warm summer breeze upon one's skin; the warmth of the summer sun on one's face; the fall of colourful autumn leaves; and the softness of winter's snow. Themis lyrics describe cycles of nature as holy days: the earth a temple, its plants and creatures as partners and teachers advancing respect of life, cherishing the free will of sentient beings, and accepting the sacredness of all creation".
